Description

Based on extensive research by bio-chemists, nutritionists, doctors, sport-nutrition experts, and other scientists from many disciplines, and manufactured with only the very finest ingredients, with the highest specifications, SOYA-Rx represents the most advanced dietary protein-carbohydrate-fat-fibre supplement available.

The formula contains a calorie ratio of approx. 33% protein, 42% carbohydrates and 24% essential fats when mixed with regular soy milk. The formula can be used with fruit juice, low fat soy milk or rice milk, but the calorie ratio will vary with different liquids. Although SOYA-Rxcan be used with cows milk, the negative influence of cholesterol and lactic acid, as well as allergenic reactions in many people will reduce some of the formula's beneficial effects.

SOYA-Rx is designed to be used by everyone, from Olympic class athletes in every type of sport, to power lifters, bodybuilders, recreational fitness buffs, dieters, and to those recovering from illness or trauma.

Ingredients

Protein - SUPRO®XT12D-IP Isolated Soy Protein

SOYA-Rx contains SUPRO®XT12D-IP, the highest grade soy protein isolate manufactured from non GMO soy beans by Protein Technologies International. It is manufactured by an exclusive heat free process that uses water washing rather than alcohol washing, a process that carefully preserves the bioactive components of the soy protein such as isoflavones, vitamins and minerals. It is the only soy protein isolate that garantees a total isoflavone content of more than 2 mg total isoflavones per gram of protein, or 40 mg per 20 grams of protein. It's amino acid profile exceeds FAO/WHO/UNU minimum recommendations for all essential amino acids for pre-school and school age children and for adults. SUPRO®XT12D-IP isolated soy protein has the highest possible "Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score" (P.D.C.A.A.S.) equal to 1, equivalent to milk and eggs and better than beef. The PDCAAS is mandated by the FDA as the measure of protein digestibility. SUPRO®XT12D-IP is very highly digestible, having a digestibility ratio of more than 97%, higher than all other proteins. It can maintain positive nitrogen balance when fed as the sole protein at minimum intake levels.

On October 20th, 1999, the US Food & Drug Administration announced that it has approved for use a health claim for soy protein on food labels which states, "25 grams of soy protein included in a diet low in startated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease."  Each 50 g serving of Soya Rx provides 17 g of soy protein.

Compared to whey protein, SUPRO®XT12D-IP has

  • 250% more arginine, the amino acid which plays a key role in stimulating the release of anabolic hormones that promote muscle formation, reducing physiological stress, and maintaining a strong immune system.
  • 215% more glutamine, an amino acid that is the body's primary carrier of nitrogen to skeletal muscle and other tissues. Glutamine helps buffer lactic acid build-up in the blood and tissues, boosts muscle protein activity, increases growth hormone activity, and strengthens immune capacity.
  • 179% more of "The Critical Cluster", the combination of BCAA's, arginine and glutamine which is important to the serious athlete.
  • 270% more iron, the mineral which helps prevent "sports anaemia", the iron loss caused by intense training which can cause reduced capacity for exercise due to the crucial role of iron in both oxygen transport and utilization.

SUPRO®XT12D-IP is fat, lactose and cholesterol free and contains several components including isoflavones (especially genistein), methionine, phytic acid, and protease inhibitors, which help lower cholesterol levels and to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease. Animal proteins cause significant hypercholesterolimia in test subjects, while test subjects fed diets of soy protein had lower cholesterol levels. Genistein, the major soy isoflavone, also stimulates bone formation. Only 40 grams of isolated soy protein per day increases bone mineral content and density. SUPRO®XT12D-IP contains 13 mg of genestein per 20 grams of protein. SUPRO®XT12D-IP is also an excellent source of calcium, containing 807 mg of elemental calcium per serving, and potassium, containing 1172 mg elemental potassium per serving.

Adequate protein is essential to support fitness training and hard physical labour. Protein requirements are based on total energy needs, body mass, type of activity, level of training, age sex, and climate, temperature and altitude. Isolated soy protein has been proven to enhance athletic performance, especially where endurance and/or strength are critical factors. Exercise results in an increased oxidation rate for the branched chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine and valine). The anabolic effect of training is influenced by adequate levels of testosterone, growth hormone and insulin in the blood. Arginine, lysine and ornithine may stimulate the release of testosterone, growth hormone or insulin and promote muscle development. SUPRO®XT12D-IP isolated soy protein is high in all these amino acids, surpassing casein, whey and egg protein. Soy protein is also effective in maintaining positive nitrogen balance and normal biochemical parameters, especially important as part of a low calorie diet for weight loss.

Protein, however, is not the only macronutrient necessary for maintaining good health, and for improving athletic performance. Carbohydrates, essential fatty acids and dietary fibre also play essential roles. SOYA R-x provides an ideal balance between these four maconutrients. Most research indicates that dietary protein should make up between 15% and 30% of total calories, while carbohydrates should be between 50% and 70%, and essential fats should make up between 15% and 20% of total calories (saturated fat should be as close to 0 as possible). Dietary fibre should be at least 12 grams per l000 calories per day.

Protein levels of 30% of total calories is optimal only for the most advanced strength athletes involved in a rigorous training programme. For example, a 100 kg advanced body builder who consumes 5000 calories a day can use a maximum of 375 grams of protein a day. Any excess of this amount will be either burned as calories, excreted or stored as fat. A moderately active athlete who consumes 3500 calories a day would need approx. 25% of total calories from protein or 220 grams of protein daily. On the other hand, the average individual who consumes 2400 calories a day, would only require 15% of total calories from protein, or 90 grams of protein daily.

Glucose

SOYA-Rx contains glucose, the body's most important energy providing molecule, a clean burning fuel for all life functions that require energy, from molecular biochemistry to athletic activity. The blood continuously delivers glucose to all tissues. Glucose is the active transporter that moves creatine into muscle tissue. The brain, nervous system and eye use glucose almost exclusively for their energy requirements. A brain shortage of glucose results in behavioural symptoms (hypoglycaemia) or low blood sugar. Whatever glucose the body cannot use at the moment is stored as glycogen or fat, then tapped and recycled as glucose whenever needed. Like protein and essential fats, glucose is an essential nutrient upon which life depends.

Lecithin

Lecithin is a Phospholipid composed of Glycerol, two fatty acids and a Phosphatidic Acid. The primary Phosphatides are Phosphatidyle Ethanolamine (PE ) and phosphatidyl choline (PC). Lecithin is the dietary precursor of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter required for normal brain function. PC functions structurally as a component of the cell membrane. PC also occurs in plasma lipo-protein complexes where it assists in the transport of lipids throughout the bloodstream. In the bile, PC acts as an emulsifier while aiding in fat transport from the gastrointestinal tract

SOYA-Rx contains a special oil free powdered lecithin from non GMO soy beans containing 97% phosphatides. Each 50 g serving contains 1150 mg of phosphatidyl choline, a powerful fat emulsifying compound that is present in every cell in the body. PC solubilizes fats and cholesterol in the blood stream, solubilizes dietary fats in the intestinal mucosa and maintains structural integrity of cell membranes. PC is a source of choline, a B-complex factor with powerful lipotropic activity that plays a vital role in brain neurotransmission. Lecithin also provides linoleic acid, an omega 6 essential fatty acid which is the precursor to the series l Prostaglandins, hormone like substances that regulate the synthesis of cyclic AMP (adenosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate), which in turn regulates hormone, protein, bone, fatty acid, amino acid, glycogen, nerve and energy metabolism. Physical activity plays a central role in the control of lipid metabolism. Increased physical activity induces a number of positive changes in the metabolism of lipoproteins: serum triglycerides are lowered by the increased lipolytic activity and the production of native high density lipoprotein (HDL) particles is increased. With increased lecithin, cholesterol acyltransferase activity leads to increased production of HDL2, which is catabolised more slowly due to a decreased activity of hepatic lipase. These three effects explain the increased HDL levels of endurance trained individuals.

Konjac Root (glucomannan)

SOYA-Rx contains glucomannan, a dietary fibre derived from tubers of the Amorphophallus Konjac Plant, commonly referred to as konjac root. The tubers of the konjac plant contain large amounts of mannan, known as 'konjac mannan' or glucomannan. Glucomannan is an unabsorbable polysaccharide, composed of glucose and mannose, in 1:1.6 ratio, bound through beta-1, 4-glycosidic linkages.

This unique vegetable fibre, is the most effective of all fibres, with much stronger gell-forming properties than either pectin or guar gum. Glucomannon quickly satisfies the appetite because of its expansion when it absorbs liquid. One gram of glucomannan expands in volume and will absorb about l00 millilitres of water, giving a sense of fullness. The mechanism of action of glucomannon relates to the ability of dietary fibre to increase the viscosity of the gastrointestinal contents, promoting bowel activity, but slowing the emptying of the stomach. Glucomannon inhibits micelle formation in the intestines, and suppresses the production of indole and skatole. By altering the balance in the intestinal flora of the beneficial organisms, glucomannan helps build the disease resistance of the host.

Creatine Monohydrate

SOYA-Rx contains 100% pure, pharmaceutical grade creatine monohydrate, a natural source of creatine, a nitrogen containing amino acid made from arginine, glycine and methionine. Creatine is the precursor to ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy molecule. The ability of the muscle to make ATP depends on the body's supply of creatine. The more creatine in the muscle, the more ATP is made to meet the energy demands of the body, and the more ATP that is resynthesized, the less requirement for glycolysis, with its accompanying lactic acid build up, to provide the prime energy source. Creatine supplementation promotes protein synthesis, facilitates increases in lean muscle mass, and helps to build strength and endurance for people of all ages. Creatine supplementation can also reduce total cholesterol, triglycerides and very low density lipoproteins in the blood.

Creatine supplementation can raise creatine levels in the muscles by as much as 20-30%. Besides facilitating additional supplies of ATP, which is primarily used during anaerobic (i.e. short term intense energy production) exercise, creatine may also buffer the build-up of lactic acid (its primary waste product). Thus, the exercising muscle will develop size and strength from the increased energy and the delayed onset of temporary muscular failure due to lactic acid build up. Creatine supplementation may also reduce the characteristic soreness following intense exercise. Stiffness & soreness may be delayed by as much as 24 - 48 hours.

Bromelain

SOYA-Rx contains bromelain, a sulfhydryl proteolytic enzyme extracted from the stem of the pineapple plant, which digests protein into its constituent amino acids. Besides its protein digesting properties, bromelain offers significant support for a wide variety of disorders from impaired digestion, sinusitis and allergies to its antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties. Due to its ability to block harmful prostaglandins that can cause pain and inflammation, and to its positive effect on beneficial prostaglandins, bromelain is an effective nutritional supplement for helping to maintain healthy joints. Bromelain also possesses natural appetite suppression properties and shows great promise as a weight control aid.

Xanthan Gum

SOYA-Rx contains xanthan gum, an extracellular polysaccharide produced by the bacterium Xanthomonas Campestris. The gum contains D-glucose, D-mannose, D-glucuronic acid, acetal-linked pyruvic acid and O-acetyl. This gum is highly edible and is a good source of dietary fibre. It has the ability to form mixed gels with certain other polysaccharides such as glucomannan. Like glucommanan, xanthan gum increases intestinal transit time, absorbs faecal water, influences glucose and lipid metabolism, mineral absorption, reduces the risk of colon cancer and helps protect against obesity, diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease and hyper-cholesterolemia. Xanthan gum enhances mouth feel, and with natural vanilla flavour, helps to give SOYA-Rx a smooth texture and a great taste.
